Important notice concerning CXML wind speeds from NCEP and CMC ensembles Wind speeds given in CXML files from NCEP and CMC have units of knots. CXML files for dates through 21 Oct 2010 (20101021) incorrectly specify that the wind speeds are given in m/s when in fact the correct units are kt. A correction was made on 22 Oct 2010. The wind speed units are now correctly specified as kt.

Priestley Medal by AMOS

At the 2014 annual conference of the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (AMOS) in Hobart, Matthew Wheeler was presented with the Priestley Medal in recognition of his outstanding research achievment as a mid-career scientist. Matt is recognised as an international leader in tropical meteorology, in particular as one of the world’s leading experts on the Madden-Julian Oscillation and associated phenomena.
