About these plots:
These plots are of trends in area, extent and concentration of Southern Hemisphere (Antarctic) sea ice represented as Hovmoller diagrams. Trends are based on the period 1979-2008. To calculate these Hovmollers monthly sea ice concentration data are split into 5 degree longitude segments - 72 5-degree segments. Trends in concentration are calculated by dividing the area by the extent for each 5-degree segment.Units are 1000 square kms/decade (area and extent) and percent/decade (concentration).
