About these plots - Daily Southern Hemisphere (Antarctic) sea ice maps:
These plots are of daily Southern Hemisphere sea ice concentrations for the most recent 12 month period. They are updated daily and match in the sea ice area and extent plots and anomalies, as mentioned below. The climatology contours are for the period 1979-2007 and based on having sea ice present on at least 50% of the days (see the GSFC daily sea ice concentration climatology maps (1979-2007)). Data are from the National Snow and Ice Data Center and are based on concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I Passive Microwave Data.NB: from 14th July 2008 all missing data (the small black dots) are filled using a simple near-neighbour interpolation.
