Weather and Environmental Prediction (WEP):   Aims

Vision

To advance the science and technology needed to deliver accurate weather, climate and environmental predictions.

Principles

  • People: WEP attracts, retains and empowers top scientists and technologists, building the capacity necessary to meet difficult goals.
  • Common Effort: WEP staff collaborate across team boundaries and maintain a flow of new ideas through involvement in external research programs.
  • Science and Technology Leadership: WEP is a world leader in conducting high level environmental research and developing state-of-the-art forecasting systems.
  • Real Outputs: WEP translates new research into technologies that deliver improved services for the public good.

Aims

  • Advance our understanding, and ability to predict, short term weather events that affect Australia on both weather and climate time scales,
  • Provide the environmental forecasting systems needed to manage and mitigate the impact of weather and air pollution hazards on Australia,
  • Assess and predict environmental resources such as precipitation and wind.
