Earth System Modelling (ESM): Research Areas
- A new national capability in numerical weather prediction that includes advanced data assimilation techniques and better utilisation of satellite data;
- A coupled atmosphere-ocean/sea-ice-land surface/carbon cycle model suitable for conducting coupled climate simulations including the carbon cycle;
- An enhanced capability in ocean modelling systems that includes advanced data assimilation techniques and utilisation of satellite and in situ data;
- Development of key physical parameterisations and model evaluation techniques;
- Development of earth system science infrastructure, e.g. software engineering standards and model diagnostics; and
- Study of complexity in biological, social-ecological and physical systems using complex systems science approaches.
