Climate Variability and Change (CVC): Aims
We aim to:
- Ensure that the Australiian public and Australian industries and organisations are better informed on the likelihood and nature of past and future climate change in the Australian region.
- Provide knowledge of how much climate change Australia needs to adapt to and by when.
- Provide knowledge, data and tools used in regional and sectoral risk assessments.
- Contribute to equipping Australia with practical and effective adaptation options to climate change and variability.
- Facilitate better decision-making in relation to climate change and climate variability, particularly for public policy that improves the adaptive capacity of the environment, society and economy, and policy relating to climate change mitigation.
- Progress the science of intra-seasonal to interannual climate prediction, including the development of coupled dynamical seasonal prediction models for intra-seasonal/seasonal applications.
- Advance understanding of intra-seasonal to interannual climate variability and predictability by using climate data and coupled models to conduct theoretical and practical studies.
- Contribute to risk management and decision making tools sensitive to intra-seasonal-to-interannual climate variability in the general areas of natural resource management and primary industries.
- Deliver new knowledge and applications for decision-making in climate-sensitive industries and that informs policy for managing Australia’s environmental resources.
