The Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research (CAWCR), a joint venture between CSIRO and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, will hold its fifth annual workshop, from 15-17 November 2011. The workshop, exploring the composition of the atmosphere and incorporating the Cape Grim Annual Science Meeting, will be held at the Bureau of Meteorology, Melbourne

Key themes for the workshop:

  • Chemistry-Climate interactions
  • Budgets (carbon cycle, fluxes)
  • Emerging tools/opportunities

Aims of the Workshop:

  • To understand the role of atmospheric chemistry and composition in global atmospheric change as expressed in the Australasian region and internationally
  • To provide a forum for atmospheric composition researchers from different disciplines (in-situ observations, remote sensing observations, modelling) to share ideas, enhance collaboration and develop a coordinated regional approach to characterising atmospheric processes in Australasia

Keynote Presenters:

A number of prominent scientists and experts from overseas, Australian research agencies and universities have been invited to give presentations. Keynote speakers include Professor Dr Martin Heimann, Director of the Department of Biogeochemical Systems at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena; Dr Olaf Morgenstern, Research Scientist at NIWA, Lauder; and Dr. Dale Hurst, Research Scientist at NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory. The Priestley lecture will be given by Dr Stephen E. Schwartz, Senior Scientist and Group Leader at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). More ...
